Welcome to Barb – Unwired, and join me on my journey to reconnect with what’s most important to me: living simply and sincerely, remembering my roots as an Iowa farm kid, and using technology to help me with what’s important instead of letting it rule my life, all while using technology as a deft tool instead of a sledgehammer that ruins everything else in my life.
Every year it seems like gets more hectic. Technology was supposed to be the great savior – and yet it changes fast enough it’s hard to learn how to use it to simplify our lives. The more we have Wi-fi, Bluetooth, and other technologies that let us work “un-wired”, the more we seem to be tied to our jobs, our bosses, and our devices. Taking time to reconnect with what it really important to us can seem like a burden, another item on a to-do list that already goes halfway to the moon.
My career has been working with technology – I was writing software before most people knew there was such a word, and have spent my adult life working with lasers, optics and other cutting edge technologies. Yet there were still times it so consumed my life I was unable to answer the question, “What do you do for fun?”
These are my stories as I continue my journey to find my happy place – where simple things are important and technology helps me enjoy them.
